From the critical care point of view, it covers basic areas of cardiac ITU management and cardiac surgical nursing skills on the intensive care unit. It gives practical advice about resuscitation of sick cardiac surgical patients and gives a brief explanation of CALS / CSU-ALS. Furthermore, it gives very user-friendly lessons on pacing, chest drain management and the IABP, after which none of these devices (which are hallmarks of post cardiac surgical nursing care) will ever be a mystery again!

PIRT is a one-day intensive programme able to be delivered to small and large groups. The instructor to student ratio is 1 to 7 and can be fun for class sizes up to 35 in a single course where venue permits.
