It contains sections on the basics of wound care, pressure area care, dealing with sedation, analgesia and the confused post cardiac surgical patient. It also has sections on psychological care and the dealing with the difficult issues of death and dying in the cardiac surgical environment. Paediatric Immediate Resuscitation Training (PIRT)

Cardiorespiratory arrest in children, is associated with profoundly poor outcomes generally and when compared with adults. It is generally accepted that early recognition of deterioration and intervention provides for the best outcomes.

Cardiopulmonary arrest in children is a rare event and the exposure to very unwell children for most clinicians is limited making robust, effective training in the area essential to reduce failures of care and ensure the best prognosis for this demographic.

In response to an identified need CALS Australia PTY LTD and A to E Training —the United Kingdom’s largest resuscitation training provider have developed an immersive, evidenced based, high yield educational programme for all clinicians who may be exposed to unwell children during their professional practice.

    •           The PIRT course integrates theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and scenario-based simulations to provide learners with the essential tools to respond confidently and competently to paediatric emergencies.

    •           The course includes eLearning modules, a detailed PDF manual, hands-on clinical skills assessments, and certification valid for up to two years upon successful completion.

    •           The educational objectives focus on building a robust foundation in paediatric anatomy and physiology, enhancing clinical reasoning for the early identification of life-threatening abnormalities, and fostering a structured approach to treatment.

    •           Immersive, scenario-based teaching ensures learners gain not only technical proficiency but also the confidence to manage real-world emergencies involving children and young people.

PIRT is a one-day intensive programme able to be delivered to small and large groups. The instructor to student ratio is 1 to 7 and can be fun for class sizes up to 35 in a single course where venue permits.

Students get practical hands-on experience of the situations that then may encounter using genuine equipment with a focus not only on skills and knowledge acquisition but non-technical skills such as leadership, decision making and communication.
